This site consists of approximately 32 acres (13 hectares) of land, and is comprised of the Whale's Tooth Parking Lot, the New Bedford Railyard and Island Sands.
The Whale's Tooth Parking Lot provides a large parking lot for the New Bedford Ferry Terminal and commuter transit, and the New Bedford Railyard provides staging for more than 100 rail cars. Both the parking lot and railyard are located less than ¼ mile (0.4 km) from the waterfront. Island Sands consists of 3 acres (1.2 hectares) of land directly adjacent to the waterfront. Island Sands is an open, unpaved property, and has a cellular cofferdam bulkhead with a load transfer platform on the western edge of the property. Island Sands is separated from the parking lot and railyard by Herman Melville Boulevard.
The site has good access to the interstate highway, to deep water via Island Sands, and a local workforce. The site is 35 nautical miles (65 km) from the leading edge of the offshore wind energy areas located south of Martha’s Vineyard with no overhead restrictions.
