The 2020 Massachusetts Clean Energy Industry Report shows that the clean energy sector continued to grow through the end of calendar year 2019, with almost 114,000 clean energy workers in Massachusetts, 3% of the workforce. In 2019, Massachusetts added just over 2,100 clean energy jobs, and the industry contributed over $14 billion to the Massachusetts Gross State Product. Clean energy employment has grown 89%, or nearly 54,000 jobs, since 2010.
The COVID-19 pandemic caused clean energy businesses to shed a net 13,900 jobs from March through September 2020, with the greatest losses in April, and modest gains from June through September.
