Job intro

About Resolute Methane:

Methane is responsible for one quarter of the current rate of global warming, and reducing these emissions is the most powerful lever for reducing the rate of warming in the next ten years -- and is essential for staying below 1.5ﹾC and avoiding or slowing irreversible tipping points. High concentration methane can be captured or flared, yet 75% of emissions, including agriculture and mining, occur at concentrations too low for existing technologies.

Resolute Methane is addressing this gap by applying advances in heat transfer and reactor design to destroy methane using our advanced thermal oxidizer. We are driven to build scalable and affordable solutions to the climate crisis; but we can’t do it alone.

If you want to geek out about methane with us, make a dent in the climate crisis, or clean up two of the dirtiest industries, please apply. Even if you don’t check every single box in the job description, we want your talents, your perspective, and your willingness to ask “what if?” on our team.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Resolute Methane is setting up a new lab space to house the prototype and associated safety, test, and instrumentation. You’ll be working directly with the founder 1-2 days per week  to assist with mechanical design and fabrication across these verticals. This role is perfect for someone looking for hands-on experience in the earliest stages of hardware development. This role is flexible, with specific tasks and level of ownership/independence based on your capabilities and interests. Examples tasks include:

  • 3D design and fabrication/installation of ventilation ducts and compressed gas lines from process diagrams
  • Installation and wiring of safety and process monitoring equipment
  • Specification, assembly, and wiring of process control components (valves, switches, flow meters, blowers) from process diagram for test bed
  • Implementation of a custom control system using Labview or Arduino-based environment
  • Design and fabrication of reactor components (gas line plumbing, machining, sheet metal forming, ceramics, power electronics)
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Detail and safety oriented
  • Prior experience with machine/power tools (e.g. various drills, saws, lathes, etc.)
  • Comfortable working with basic metal fabrication equipment and techniques, including: Cutting, rolling, bending, and (optionally) welding.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering design and manufacturing concepts; ability to advise and brainstorm on equipment design and fabrication
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, willingness to learn new skills if needed

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with HVAC systems, working with compressed gases, designing, specifying, and assembling compressed gas and flammable gas systems
  • Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, or OnShape
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Prior experience with electricity (e.g. certified electrician) or electronics (e.g. building equipment controls using labview, arduino, or similar)
Benefits

This is a temporary hourly role, anticipated to be 8-16 hours/week from January to May. The pay range for professional candidates is up to $75/hr based on experience, with a path to increased responsibilities, hours, or a full-time role possible based on mutual objectives. Responsibilities and a work plan will be mutually developed and periodically revisited.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all our employees and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
