About Us

For roughly 500,000 years, humans have been burning stuff to heat our homes, burning stuff to light our homes, and burning stuff to power our machines. It’s 2024, people. Let’s change that.

Right now, homes account for roughly 20% of the world’s carbon emissions. Here at Elephant Energy, we know that there is a better way, so we are building a one-stop shop that makes it easy to upgrade to a climate-friendly home. We enable homeowners to confidently make the switch to modern, electric technologies and get their homes off of fossil fuels – all at once, or over time.

Our History

Founded in 2021 by DR and Josh with the goal to accelerate the end of fossil fuel use, our first installation was in Boulder, Colorado in December 2021 and in three short years, we have successfully:

  1. Launched a second market in Boston, Massachusetts, in summer 2023
  2. Installed >1,000 heat pumps in >500 unique homes, receiving these amazing Google reviews along the way
  3. Amassed 40+ herdmembers, with plans to continue to expand based on our early and continued success in #electrifyingeverything
  4. Completed a successful Seed stage fundraise, with plans to raise a Series A in 2025.
Job Duties/Responsibilities

About The Role

What you would be doing: We are excited to add a pair of General Managers (GMs) to our team! Reporting to our co-founder, DR, and embedded with local teams in either Denver or Boston, these GMs will oversee the successful sales, execution, and delivery of all projects within their respective market.

The GM will ensure that all operational processes are efficient and that projects are delivered on time, in scope, and on budget. This role requires a seasoned operations leader with exceptional project management expertise. Accountable for the profitability of their respective market, the GM will manage teams responsible for sales and delivery, while leveraging corporate support for other functions such as marketing, supply chain, trade partner management, and customer success. Responsibilities include though are not limited to:

Big Things:

  • Financial Management: Own the market’s P&L to ensure revenue targets are met and projects are delivered profitably, while identifying growth opportunities and managing risks.
  • Operational Leadership: Oversee day-to-day operations by managing two core teams:
    • Home Comfort Advisors (HCAs) – responsible for consultation, project design, financing, and contracts.
    • Project Managers (PMs) – focused on customer outcomes, installation timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with HQ teams (Marketing, Supply Chain, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success) to improve products, enhance customer experiences, and align on strategic goals.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, officials, and industry partners to enhance market presence. Represent Elephant at local events and forums, shaping the company’s brand and story.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use data and KPIs to drive continuous improvement, aligning with corporate goals. Provide regular financial and operational reports to the executive team.
  • Team Development: Focus on building, mentoring, and retaining a high-performing team. Gather market insights and manage local regulatory, policy, and compliance matters.

What you won’t be doing:

  • This role does not oversee marketing. Nor does it manage supply chain or control OEM selection. These functions are  managed by centralized teams, allowing the GM to focus solely on operational execution and service delivery.

Timeline for role expectations:

  1. Within 1 Month:
    • Gain a deep understanding of our business, local market, and competitive landscape.
    • Shadow HCAs and PMs to learn the sales and delivery processes.
    • Identify initial areas for operational improvement and potential quick wins.
    • Hold one-on-one meetings with each team member to establish team dynamics.
  2. Within 3 Months:
    • Establish KPIs and dashboards to guide decision-making.
    • Develop a strategic plan for 2025 with revenue, margin, and customer satisfaction goals.
    • Build cross-functional relationships with headquarters for resource alignment.
    • Create a customer feedback loop and competitive analysis for market positioning.
  3. Within 6 Months:
    • Achieve consistent revenue and margin targets, aligned with P&L goals.
    • Optimize project timelines and resource allocation to improve delivery speed and efficiency.
    • Implement a scalable onboarding and training program for new HCAs and PMs.
    • Launch a local outreach initiative to increase brand visibility and partnerships.
    • Develop a post-installation customer satisfaction metric to proactively improve service and reduce negative reviews.

Success in this role looks like/can be measured as:

  1. Meeting or exceeding P&L goals, with a focus on profitability and revenue growth.
  2. Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  3. Effectively leading and developing a high-performing team.
  4. Building strong relationships and alliances that contribute to business development and market presence.
  5. Optimizing operational processes to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.

The best General Manager for Elephant Energy should live our values, get hands-on, and have the skills to juggle technical details, financials, and team dynamics without missing a beat.

Qualifications

Here’s what a home run GM looks like:

  • Operational Heavyweight with a Laser Focus on #FastandFocused
    • Projects on time? Check. On budget? Check. No cutting corners. You’ll streamline the chaos and keep the big picture clear, knowing when to go deep on Total Cost of Ownership while making sure nothing’s overcomplicated. You’re not above grabbing off-the-shelf tools to keep the team humming. Spreadsheets are your playground, and if there’s a shortcut to efficiency, you’re on it.
  • #CustomerObsessed and Ready to Go Deep on the Tech
    • Customers expect the best, and you’re here to deliver. You speak HVAC fluently enough to hang with the engineers, diving into technical specs to make sure we’re not just selling a project but delivering a damn good one. You’re hands-on with the details—solving real problems and keeping quality high because customer trust is non-negotiable.
  • Financially Savvy with a Side of #OwnIt
    • You don’t just manage a P&L; you own it. Financials don’t scare you, and you’ve got the data chops to dig deep into costs, revenue, and spreadsheets without breaking a sweat. You understand how decisions impact both today’s budget and tomorrow’s gains. No waiting for someone else to make the tough calls—this is your market to drive, grow, and keep profitable.
  • Team-Centric with Serious #HerdMentality
    • Lone wolves need not apply. You’re all about building teams that take accountability and work together like a well-oiled machine. You break down silos and make collaboration happen naturally. Plus, if there’s software that’ll keep the team organized and efficient, you’re all in for using it without overthinking.
  • #ABL and Ready to Tackle Problems with an Open Mind
    • You don’t know everything—and that’s the point. With a growth mindset, you’re always in learning mode (#ABL), whether it’s new tech, new strategies, or new tools to streamline the grind. When things go sideways, you’re the first to dive in, figuring out solutions instead of pointing fingers.
  • Believer in #DiversityWins
    • You know that diverse perspectives bring out the best results and make a team unbeatable. Elephant Energy isn’t just about electrifying homes; it’s about building an inclusive workplace where every voice has value, and you’ll be championing that every step of the way.

You’re a great fit for this role if you have:

  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of budget management and P&L statements to drive cost efficiency and maintain profitability in project execution.
  • Operational Efficiency Focus: History of optimizing workflows, reducing costs, and improving productivity to streamline operations.
  • Passion for People: Experience leading and developing sales and delivery teams, fostering accountability and high performance.
  • Analytical Mindset: Skilled in using data to guide decision-making, with a solutions-oriented approach to operational challenges.
  • Customer Focus: Dedicated to creating exceptional customer experiences, maintaining quality and efficiency throughout project delivery.
  • Industry-Specific Knowledge and Experience: While experience in residential HVAC, solar, electrical, or similar industries is highly valuable, prior experience in a consumer-focused, offline business is essential. This role requires a solid understanding of in-person customer interactions, managing physical service operations, and delivering exceptional customer experiences that foster loyalty and satisfaction in a non-digital setting.

Indicators this may not be the right role for you:

  • You rely on clarity, organization, and structure to succeed but struggle to create them independently.
  • You’re disinterested in being the face of the business
  • You struggle making data-driven decisions when you only have 80% of the data you would ideally want
  • You lack conviction in your views or you struggle to change them when appropriate
  • You lack passion for the problem we’re trying to solve
