Job Details
Under supervision of the General Manager, lead the development, marketing, and operational management of MMLD’s energy efficiency, sustainability, and decarbonization programs offered to MMLD residential and commercial customers. Lead related initiatives within MMLD facilities and operations.
The essential roles and responsibilities include:
- Develop and manage an annual calendar, containing major programs and initiatives, including relevant events, communications, and budgets.
- Become a subject matter expert on all MMWEC (Mass Municipal Wholesale Electric Company - the Massachusetts joint action state agency for municipal electric light departments) energy efficiency programs implemented at MMLD. Adapt and tailor MMWEC programs for MMLD implementation. Provide program guidance, training, and assistance to both customers and MMLD customer service representatives.
- Develop and maintain metrics for all programs and initiatives. Track actual expenses versus budgets.
- Research and apply to relevant Mass state and Federal grant funding programs.
- Become a visible spokesperson and subject matter expert on sustainability and energy efficiency programs. Proactively engage other relevant entities in town: civic, religious and youth organizations, other Town departments, including Marblehead schools, with a willingness to participate in the events of other organizations.
- Develop and deliver MMLD-sponsored educational events for customers on specific programs and initiatives.
- Maintain the relevant sections of the MMLD website and Facebook pages with latest information regarding MMLD program updates and news.
- Design and communicate relevant MMLD Sustainability/Decarbonization metrics and infographics, for display on the MMLD website. Include metrics on major MMLD sustainability and energy efficiency measures, MMLD power portfolio decarbonization progress, and public EV chargers installed and operated by MMLD.
- Develop an annual calendar of program promotions, news, and updates for insertion to monthly electric bills.
- Work collaboratively with personnel in other Town departments, including the Marblehead Building and Fire Depts., on existing and new MMLD customer programs that require a Building or Fire Dept. permit and/or an MMLD Interconnection approval. Work collaboratively to identify application process improvements to simplify and expediate such processes while ensuring the appropriate review of applications and collection of all relevant customer information.
- Collaborate with other MMLD personnel, and with other Town department personnel, to ensure location-based data is captured in appropriate GIS systems. ESRI ArcGIS knowledge is highly desirable.
- Become recognized as a knowledgeable liaison, working with manufacturers, installers, trades people, and customers on the permitting, installation, and operations of relevant products as EV chargers, solar PV arrays, heat pumps and battery storage systems.
- Build a close, collaborative relationship with the MMWEC energy efficiency team, providing feedback on existing MMWEC programs and ideas for new and improved programs.
- Regularly evaluate the cost effectiveness of existing programs, propose modifications, and/or new programs as appropriate.
- Leverage multiple communications channels, including the MMLD website, monthly electric bill inserts, social media, local print media, and MHTV local cable to reach MMLD customers with relevant info updates and news.
- Travel to multiple Massachusetts locations to attend MMWEC, MEAM, NEPPA and other appropriate industry events.
- Participate as an MMLD team member during outage events, with a focus on public communications using available tools as CodeRed voice, text, and email communications, MMLD website, and social media platforms as Facebook.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree preferred, in a science, marketing, engineering or quantitative field, plus a minimum of two years relevant work experience. Other qualifying backgrounds include: (1) an associate’s degree and four years of relevant work experience and (2) individuals in a relevant, licensed skilled trade, with five years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Experienced and comfortable using Microsoft Windows-based Office applications including Outlook, Work, Excel, and PowerPoint, and internet search experience using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or equivalent. Proficiency in these tools is a plus. Ability and willingness to learn new software applications is a plus.
- Ability to create and maintain MMWEC and MMLD-generated marketing content on the MMLD website, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Able to adapt to changing work situations: in some cases working as an individual and other situations as a member of a team. Possess the flexibility to participate as a team member in some situations and assume responsibility as the team leader in others.
- Be capable of working in an environment with short or changing deadlines and moving forward on projects with incomplete information.
- Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
All MMLD employees are occasionally required to work extended hours during periods of severe weather, when power outages are most likely to occur.

Salary: $65,000-100,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
